Dan Phillips of Emerson Industrial Automation to Present at the Iron and Steel Technology Conference and Expo May 6-9 in Pittsburgh

Booth #541 Will Showcase Emerson's Customer Service Expertise Through the KopFlex® Brand “Like New for Less” Campaign

FLORENCE, KY., April 11, 2013 — Emerson Industrial Automation, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), announced today Dan Phillips, Kop-Flex Field Service Engineering Manager, will present a technical paper at the Iron and Steel Technology Conference and Exposition held May 6-9 in Pittsburgh. Phillips will co-present “Real-Time Torque Monitoring at North Star BlueScope Steel” on May 8 at 4 p.m. in room 306, along with Keith Hoffman, Chris Davis and Eleazar Serrano of BlueScope Steel. Attendees at the presentation will examine a real-world example to learn how a torque monitoring system proved to be a valuable tool for preventative maintenance as it identified torques which initiated a crack in the roll sleeve of the gear spindle, allowing time for it to be removed before a catastrophic failure occurred.

Located in booth #541, Emerson will showcase solutions geared to the iron and steel industries through its time-tested brands, such as KOP-FLEX® couplings and Rollway bearings, in addition to the following special activities and demonstrations:

Like New for Less program — helps businesses in the iron and steel industries repair worn equipment and realize savings of 30 to 90 percent through its documented inspection process, and inventory management and preventative maintenance programs. On display will be a size 18 CM coupling, half of which is refurbished and compared side by side to the other half, which has not been refurbished it.

Torque monitoring testimonial — demonstrates the results of a torque study analyzing the extra force exerted on drive trains installed in older steel mills as they try to utilize “new steel.” One company is projecting millions of dollars in annual savings.

Torsional analysis — using the information gathered from the torque study, Emerson is able to mathematically model the drivetrain to understand how system dynamics affect peak torques and the subsequent oscillations.  This information can be used evaluate potential changes and advise companies how to accommodate the heavier loads.
