Building on the success of web-based version, mobile app provides technicians with improved navigation, belt identification and GPS functionality
FLORENCE, KY., January 17, 2013 - Power Transmission Solutions, a business of Emerson Industrial Automation, today announced the upgraded version of the Toolbox Technician™ mobile app for HVACR technicians. Combining its printed Browning Bearings & Belt Drive Pocket Reference Guide with a myriad of new features and an improved energy efficiency calculator, the app provides on-the-go access to all bearing and belt drive information that a technician needs to select, install and maintain a Browning product.
The downloadable app enables the user to easily search the Browning Bearing & Belt Drive Pocket Reference Guide and calculate information on efficiency savings quickly and efficiently. Unlike printed guides, material can be continually updated as new products are developed, so technicians will know they have the most current information. The upgraded app also delivers improved navigation, a belt identification wizard and GPS functionality in an easy, interactive mobile phone experience.
“This upgraded tool essentially puts all the Browning product information into an easy-to-use app right in the palm of the technician's hand,” said Don Sullivan, Senior Product Manager, Browning Brand V-Belt drives. “For example, if a technician is in the field and wants to identify a belt, they are prompted to key in the part number or find the belt they currently have by answering a few simple questions. Once the product has been identified, the user is given the option to upgrade to a notched belt and given the ability to quickly locate the upgraded belt for purchase.”
The app's improved calculator measures savings based on moving from wrapped to notched belts and also measures efficiency savings for replacing worn sheaves and maintaining proper belt tension. This enables technicians to have all materials in one easy place rather than carrying a pocket reference guide, calculator, other tools and a smart phone.
The Toolbox Technician app has been named an Honorable Mention winner of the 2013 AHR Expo Innovation Award. These awards recognize products that best help HVACR practitioners provide safer, healthier, more efficient and/or more comfortable environments. The annual competition is sponsored by ASHRAE, the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) and the International Exposition Company (IEC).
“This app is the first of its kind and will set the trend for development of other field apps that will make it easy for technicians to obtain the necessary information to provide the best service for customers,” added Sullivan. “We're thrilled that the app is already being recognized as an award winning tool in the HVACR industry.”
Toolbox Technician is free to download and is currently available for iPhone/iPad and Android smart phones at http://www.emersonindustrial.com//resources/mobile-apps/Pages/default.aspx. The mobile friendly web version is also available here. The app will be demonstrated at the 2013 AHR Expo in the Power Transmission Solutions booth (#1805).
