Regal® Mobile App Receives AHR Expo Innovation Award

Browning® Toolbox Technician® motor efficiency calculator wins Software category; two other products recognized as finalists

BELOIT, Wis., Nov. 13, 2017 — Regal Beloit Corporation, a leading manufacturer of electric motors, electrical motion controls, power generation and power transmission components, announced its Toolbox Technician app has received an AHR Expo Innovation Award in the Software category. The UlteMAX® axial permanent magnet (PM) motor was a finalist in the Ventilation category and the NovaMAX motor – 600 RPM was a finalist in the Green Building category.

The Toolbox Technician app-based toolset is free for HVAC contractors and maintenance professionals, featuring calculation and conversion tools and installation and troubleshooting guides. Regal recently added a motor efficiency calculator, which allows users to identify efficiency differences between different generations of integral horsepower electric motors. With the introduction of the NEMA Premium Efficiency design in 2012, motors currently being produced meet the NEMA premium motor rating; however, less efficient designs such as EPAct are still commonly found in commercial applications and are in frequent operation. The Toolbox Technician motor efficiency calculator allows users to identify the efficiency difference between motors by inputting the published horsepower and efficiency rating stamped on the motor nameplate. A default Epact value is also an option. The app will automatically compare the efficiency of the existing motor to a NEMA premium motor rating of the same motor horsepower and display the projected annual energy savings.

"We are very excited that our efforts to simplify evaluation and comparison of a motor's efficiency and quantify efficiency gains and subsequent potential cost savings using a NEMA premium motor have been recognized by this prestigious award," said Don Sullivan, director of marketing, HVAC and belt drives, Regal. "We look forward to celebrating this success with our customers and colleagues at AHR Expo, and will continue to evaluate and build on ways our tools can help save time and money for technicians and contractors while enabling increased efficiency."

In addition to the Software category winner, Regal's finalist products also offer solutions with contractors, maintenance professionals and efficiency in mind. The UlteMAX® axial PM motor is one-half the weight and size of traditional induction motors and includes an integrated configurable control for fast, easy installation, operation and serviceability. The NovaMAX motor is a low-speed, high-efficiency PM motor which provides substantially greater energy efficiency than current motor solutions and can reduce the carbon footprint of buildings as well as provide cost savings from increased energy efficiency.

AHR Expo Innovation Awards, given annually, recognize innovation in HVACR products, systems and technologies. Winners will be recognized at a formal ceremony during the AHR Expo, which will be held in Chicago Jan. 22–24, 2018. During the ceremony, the Product of the Year will also be announced.
